Oops, I only just discovered this thread, although I registered a week or so ago.

I am a Chartered Accountant living in Scotland, where I grew up and went to university, although I spent some 10 years working overseas (Hong Kong) and in London.

My degree (over 20 years ago now) was in Classics, specialising in Roman history for my Honours dissertation. (This was on the Roman taxation system in the 2nd century AD. I sometimes wonder if that 1st gave me the idea of becoming an accountant!).

My interest in ancient history and classical literature is abiding, and Roman military history has always been a particular enthusiasm.

My other interests include Scottish history; naval history (especially British); literature; and theatre, opera and the performing arts generally.

I am very pleased to have found a site used by such well-informed people, and look forward to visiting it regularly in future.

Here goes!

I'm a student who has lived in the central valley of California for the past two years. Before that I lived in Fremont (bay area). I still miss my hometown! I come from a fairly large family.

I enjoy playing the piano, drawing, oil painting, God's creation, astronomy, reading (C.S. Lewis and Frank Perretti are my favorite authors), being enlisted in God's Army, and so on.

Recently, I started writing a story. That's really what brought me here in the first place. I wanted to provide a accurate, yet stimulating story. It's focused around a centurion at the time of Christ. In case you're wondering, that's where the name (Quintus) came from I thank you all for providing information that has helped me extensively.

I don't want to make this too long, but I hope you guys get the idea!
Welcome, Quintus.

Was the centurion 'Quintus' named in the Gospels? Are you in touch with the reenactment group Legio X Fretensis in Vallejo? This group has chosen to portray a legionary cohort in Jerusalem during Christ's time. They tend to go a little heavy on the Christianity aspect of their programme for my tastes, but I'm sure he may be able to provide yet more information and inspiration for your story. You can contact him at [email protected] .

Good luck in your endeavours.

Quintus, note the change in the e-mail addy above. I goofed. This is the correct one.

Edited by: The Caesarion Section at: 10/19/01 10:54:15 pm

Well, since I never introduced myself either, I thought I would get in on this!

My name is Rusty Myers, born, bred and raised in Charleston, South Carolina, graduated from The Citadel, Served with the Charleston Police Department for 9 years, was in the FBI for one, then blew out a leg bad. Still Police reserves, but now I do Financial Planning. Been playing paintball all my life, got into and out of Civil War Reenacting (the politics were just too much! I reenacted Federal (union) in Charleston SC, where they are still not sure the war ended) Ran out of WWII, WWI, and Civil War history books, so started getting deeper into the Ancients. The Romans earned a special place, so with a few friends we started Legio VI Ferrata about a year ago and LegionArmory.com to help outfit ourselves and others. We also started doing lots of high detail pictures of the stuff since it seemed everything we ordered wasn't "quite as pictured" or described.

I am also a Christian, and have written a number of Roman/Easter and Christmas plays (last Easter my legion "Took Over" the Church... it was pretty awesome!).

My five year old son has his own nearly complete set of armour, cloak, engineered helmet (okay, so it is part plastic, try to find a size XXXS helmet!), balteus, 1/2 of his Lorica (be done this weekend) Finished Scutum, and small sword. We call him "Minimus" (re: Maximus) or Caligula.

Enjoy the board! Learn a lot every time I read it. Love the comdraderie of it! Seeing the names of the big guys beside mine is pretty cool.

Any help I can provide, just ask!
Welcome, Rusty!
~Caesarion

The name Quintus is NOT in the Gospels. The particular centurion I'm writing about did not have a name. I decided I liked the name Quintus and boom. That was his name.

Thanks for the contact information! I'll be sure to look into that. I believe they are the ones that do a re-enactment every Christmas called Bethlehem A.D. Sweet stuff if you haven't seen it already!
We have no claim to the LEGIO VI Ferrata name beyond their being in an area I knew a lot about historically. Still working on some civilians, easy enough to have camp followers, even ones of high rank. Would love to coordinate with other Leg VI Fer aut there though!

Rusty Myers
