Roman descent from the Hellenes

Plutarch. Roman causes

Ianos ,an Ellin from Peraivia was the first colonist in Rome , α progenitor teacher & civilizer of the Romans. The Romans honored him as a God with many temples and also gave his name to the first month of the year ,January (Ianouarios in Hellenic).

Virgil .Aeniad tome 8 ,50-55

His oris arcades ,genus profectorum ,
Qui regem euandrum comites qui signa secuti
Delegere locum et posuere in montibus urbem
Pallantis poavi de nomine pallanteum .

On these shores Arcadians a line led by Pallantas and as they were followers of Evandros followed his banners chose an area and found the city of Pallantio from Evander’s grandfather Pallanta.

Later at 138-161 ad the roman emperor Antoninos the respectful out of gratitude to the Pallantian colonizer gave honor to the pallantians with privileges making Pallantio (in Arcadia) from komi(large village) to poli(city). He also rid the inhabitants from any taxes and awarded them their freedom. (Pausanias. 4 XLIII, 1)

Ahem... As a rule it is better to follow modern linguistics to determine the etymology of a word. The ancients were more imaginative than scientific in this field...
Actually we still don't really know where the name "Rome" comes from. There are several theories.
The theory that it comes from the Greek "rhome'", which means strength, or valor, is partially discredited.
Another theory would be that Rome come from "rumon", an Etruscan word, which means "river" and which could actually be a derivative of the greek "reuma" which means "flowing".
Another theory would have Rome descending from "ruma", an archaic Latin --or Etruscan?-- word, which means either the hump of an animal's back or the teats of a cow and can be imagined to mean hill.
To complicate matters further, the word "ruma", in Anatolic language, means "village"... In any case, Ruma was what the Etruscans initially called Rome and some think the Etruscans are originally from Anatolia.
Orginally, Greek, Latin, Gallic and several other languages were one and the same indo-european idiom.
As far as Greek influence in Italy goes I think we should go up even further than that, all the way to the Myceneans. The earliest legends of Rome tell of Herakles passing through the area after a successful cattle raid.
Followed by another cattle raid, actually, since Cacus stole the oxen Herakles had stolen from Geryon..
