The enemy is less likely to get wind of an advance of cavalry, if the orders for march were passed from mouth to mouth rather than announced by voice of herald, or public notice. Xenophon

Evelyn de Morgan captured the full essence of Helen os Sparta (NOT Troy
 )

SELLENI = The dark power of the Μoon that drives men mad!

or ELLENI = the one that for her sake armies are gathered.
from ELLEO-ELLO= marshall the troops for war

EALLO H POLIS = the city is sacked

ELENA = the shockof impact as the phalax crashes upon the enemy!
(Watch out for your girlfriend Hellen prefered nickname)

Nothing wrong with that, but I didn't expect that in this movie...

Oh it is good apart from the inaccurate costumes, Helen is gorgeous shown naked amusing all husband guest, the war at troy is good, but many changes as usual... But good!...

Yeah, they did a rather good job.
Even my mythology professor who is as old school as can be and a definite hater of modern cinema felt that that rendition of the Odyssey was extremely good.

I thought it was clever how they rendered Skylla and Kharybdis. Skylla being a monster with 6 heads and 12 feet and being doglikeish was portrayed in the film like the aliens from the movie "alien" which I thought was kinda neat. And Kharybdis was well done too, shown as a gapping whirlpool meshed with the Sarlacc from "Return of the Jedi" was interesting. They did a good job. Also the scene where Odysseus's mother, Antiklea, commits suicide due to the grief of the loss of her son is never really explained in the Odyssey, excpet that she tells him in his visit to the underworld that she died because of her grief. In this movie though they show her weeping and slowly walking into the sea and submerging beneath the waves never reapearing... I thought that was a very good touch. Their rendition of Hermes though was hillariously entertaining was almost exactly how i pictured him

This was movie good mostly because they didnt attempt to cram the entire story into a single 2h 30m film like they did for "Troy" (Those silly sallys). It was a 2 part mini series which while cutting the budget gave them time for story telling which is more important.

I wasnt a huge fan of Armand Assante as Odysseus, but he is a decent enough actor to pull it off. Despite how much I HATED "Troy", Sean Bean, the actor who played Odysseus in that, did an extremely good job, and I would love to see him do another film version of the Odyssey.

I'd give this movie a 4/5. Decent acting, decent effects, decent story/accuracy = More than decent movie. 8)

Folks, nothing against movies but if you are continuing that way i'm sure all agree that we best move this thread to the references & reviews section...

It's generally accepted that he was bold, as well as brave and courageous. I've got a suspicion you mean "bald"... :? twisted:

Khairete,
Some of them probably were bald on top, or at least thinning....hence always being portrayed with helms or hats. I wonder if those fillets sometimes held on toupees - hence the 'layered look' .......
