Not quite yet in panoply... I'll try in the future, though, but it looks like it's very difficult! Maybe the next party... ;-) )

That mosaic is roman in the hellenistic style (100 bC aprox). Depicts the Ifigenia's sacrifice. Because of that, the people are depicted in greek fashion.

On the contrary, my dear fellow, it's dead easy, if rather time-consuming. But don't forget that you don't need body armour to participate, as the Festival covers later periods when Hoplites relied entirely on their shields for protection.

Polychromos means multicolored.
From Avitianus picturea I can make out a rather heavily armed Thracian and an Argive(?). Thank you all for your help. I made tha army list and I will sent it to Chris Bradley to post it on the www.fanaticus.org lists.
Hope Spanish DBA players be pleased.
Kind regards

The enemy is less likely to get wind of an advance of cavalry, if the orders for march were passed from mouth to mouth rather than announced by voice of herald, or public notice. Xenophon

Tarbicus & Arthes, yes look at this plate example, the man from his back:
A kind of dredlocks, perhaps representing serpens as the Amazon Gorgon.
look at his shield.

my first impression was 'it's a female' but maybe not... :?
The design on the shield looks Persian..you see that sort of depiction on masks and stuff from the 'East'
The scythians were also described as having 'flowing tangled windblown hair' and on close inspection of some engravings, sometimes it looks like 'dreads' or braids...
I had never thought about it being connected with Medusa....
PS The coloured Chalcidian helm on [url:ez0e4llq]http://www.mlahanas.de/Greeks/war/Armor.htm[/url] - wow..... Big Grin

Nice work Cristina.
As for the Shield in the illustration. The Gorgoneio marks this guy as a member of the SPARTA mora- "A Spartiatis". Patron god was Chalkioikos Athena, hence the Gorgoneio. The illustration is based on the "parade vase".
Hair were long in the Archaic Era (750-600 B.C.) nt only for the Spartans but for the warrior elite in general. Possiblut hehoplites appeared on parade and religious pomps in a more "artistic" way than in battles.
Its an interpretetaion but still speculative.
Kind regards
