Roman Military tatoos

We tend to think of tattoos on the upper arm, but I recall that Constantine banned the branding or tattooing (I don't remember) the faces of slaves, gladiators, and soldiers. Something about the face needing to be the image of God or something. It would make sence to use the face, since the upper arm is often covered by the tunic.

Any thoughts?
