Wooden chest with lock
#1
Hello

I would like to reconstruct roman wooden chest with lock inside or with padlock outside.
My friend-archeologist lost somewhere sources/drawings for it. He told me something about findings from Romania. But he cant help me no more.

Can anyone share with me ? Any sources for wooden chests, locks, padlocks, keys... please please ...

It depends how big a chest you want - there is of course the one the Corbridge Hoard was found in. It was 0.88m by 0.55m and up to 0.41m high, made of alder, with ferrous hinges, corner reinforces, and a lock plate. Oh, and the whole thing appears to have been covered in leather. I seem to recall that Legio II Augusta in the UK made a reconstruction of this and used to take it round to displays.

Full publication is

especially pages 95-6 and figs.80-4
