Museums again
#1
I have made a page on which I have collected all the information you gave me on museums in an earlier thread. This page is now at [url:1m8pa0um]http://www.livius.org/museums.html[/url] but this is only temporary. I invite you to add museums and contribute little reviews.

Museum in Sremska Mitrovica - Sirmium. Mostly roman period exhibition, I century finds of roman equipment for example. 84 altars dedicated to Jupiter from beneficiary station in SIrmium. Few open space sites in the center and one in city caffe. Samples from lapidarium could be seen on lupa.org.
National museum in Pozarevac- from neighbouring Viminacium. Different things from Roman period mostly. Lapidarium could be seen on Lupa also.
I have to recommend two exhibitions in Slovenia. One is in Maribor - about marble stone queries and another in Poetovio-Ptuj on poterry, production, use etc. Also in Poetovio permanent exhibition - excavation finds. I have seen one gladius pommel with inscription (stone). Almost forgot. Lapidarium in Poetovio.

Thanks for all info; I've updated the page (Greek museums still waiting but not forgotten). Is it possible to be a bit more precise about the lupa.org page? Thanks. (BTW: Arahne, welcome to RomanArmy.Com!)

I almost forgot Poligiros museum, although I have to admit that I only reached the gates, it was Monday. Maybe Stephanos could help. What I know about this museum is that it keeps finds from Olynthos (everybody should see this IV century city). Square city plan was appllied here for the first time as far as I know.
Small museum on the site of Stobi (FYRMacedonia) mostly artifacts and inscriptions Roman-early Byzantine period. Site is large and fairly presented, and very important because late roman life was preserved here like nowhere in the northern parts of Balkan.

Izmir Smirna archeological museum. Like anywhere in Turkey museums you have the feeling you're in the center, not in the province of the Roman Empire. Sculptures, artifacts, etc.
