Wikipedia: List of ancient reenactment groups
#1
I have started a list of ancient reenactment groups on wikipedia, there are already such lists for other periods such as Dark Ages, Medieval reenactment, English Civil War etc. and I thought it was about time that Romans and earlier groups got a look in.

I have already put in Legio Secunda Augusta (UK).

Wikipedia main page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page

The list: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_an ... ent_groups

Anybody can edit a Wikipedia article: if you want your group on the list, just dive in and add it. If you are really not sure about editing Wikipedia, add the details of your group to this thread and I will do it for you.

Minimum required details are Nationality of group (i.e. the country in which it is based), reenactment period, website URL, name of group and whether you do combat or living history.

I hope this doesn't get deleted.

I have tried three times to add my group but it does not seem to want my contribution.

Erm.. two things.

1) How do i enter another country?

2) Why did everybody enter Roman re-enactment groups under 'ancient' re-enactment groups, instead pf 'historical' re-enactment groups?
Should we add another category - Roman re-enactment groups?

Hi there,

I've taken the liberty of adding 'The Netherlands' for you, Robert! There was a 'edit page tab' at the top of the main page.

The entries under 'UK Roman' seemed to be more or less alphabetical, except Comitatus, which I originally added on the end of the then shorter list. So I have adjusted the Comitatus entry to reflect alphabetical order.

Hi Sandra,

Thanks!
I figured that out right after I posted this..

So what about my second point - why do we use the 'ancient' instead of the 'historical' list? After all, the Romans are commonly considered as the start of the historical period, aren't they? (this is me the historian speaking Big Grin )

I think the ancient and historical division is open to interpretation, and as with a lot of this history business it's open to interpretation. I'm not fussed either way. If there's a link to the historical section, that'd be useful to cover all points.

The whole article was proposed for deletion, but escaped for now. :?

Viventia, I hope you don't mind, I added some other cross references within the Comitatus entry.

As Wiki policy is against lists of links or of 'advertisement', this & the other useful lists at
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_medieval_reenactment_groups
and
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_Age_reenactment
and specifically at
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Historical_reenactment
are also 'endangered'.
I am adding content & comments on the relevant talk pages to help.

I would also like some help adding some more Late Legions from the Notitia to:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Roman_legions
if anyone fancies that.

The page:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Ancient_reenactment
could do with something on Greek & 'Celtic' re-enactment, if you'd like to go for it.

It must be remembered that RAT experience has shown that Wiki entries are by nature subject to deletion, re-writing & removal to the detriment of the blood pressure. Confusedhock:

Contributers should get an account, 'sign' additions on the talk pages & follow the style guidance they send to your talk page.

If in doubt put suggestions on the 'talk' pages first & work with the other contributers who have it 'watched', or join the re-enactment project:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Reenactment

My account talk page is en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Salvianus

I've had this argument more than once in the SCA, having to do with SCA rules as to what is or isn't medieval or 'middle ages' period. The thing is until historians can all agree, we have to be a little lenient to it. Some say prior to 600 is Ancient, while others include anything after 0 AD to be middle ages.

Though I do think a "Roman Times" category would be nice (seems that most clothing and equipment suppliers follow this example), I'm not going to get bent out of shape over anything in Wiki

Hello Gaius Cornelius,
I've tried to add our group Corbvlo to your list but for some reason it wouldn't stick.
Would you please be so kind to do it for me.
This is the text as we would like it to be shown:

Corbvlo is another group in The Netherlands but focusing on the early Roman Empire.
Led by Wim van Broekhoven and Monty Hansen they try to re-enact all the important things of life limiting themselves not to just the military but re-enacting also marriages, offerings and everything else significant to the life of the Ancient Romans.

Thanks a lot,
Cordvs / Wim.
