Rome vs the Samnites
#1
Hello all

Sorry to be a real pest and ask others to do this for me I am at work at the moment and won't be out for a considerable time.

Can anyone help. I am trying to find a web resource to browse in lunchtimes on the Roman military look during the Samnite wars, where the Romans teamed with the Campanions and defeated the Samnites (military history sketchy I am afraid).

I understand that the Romans may have looked like Hoplites during this period.

I realise that Osprey books and other none web resources can help, but I am stuck at work for a long time and wondered whether anyone knew any good web resources I could look at, download and view offline while stuck in a lab Tongue

Thanks for any help.[/code]

The disaster of the Cuadine Forks is an incredible story. Well worth buying a book to read it. How the Campanians and Romans came together against the Samnites is a lesson for all the ages regarding certain compromises.

The book you want is the second volume of Livy's works from Penguin Classics called 'Rome and Italy'.
