Chalcidian helmet
#1
The Deepeeka site shows a Chalcidian helmet among their products. Does anyone know of an American dealer who stocks it?

John for some strange reason google seems to give more results if you try
Chalkidean or Chalcidean instead of Chalcidian.
Hope it helps.
Kind regards

But, can you really trust someone who offers a leather trooper's helmet? The mind reels.

The question wasn't whether or not the could be trusted, just where they could be found.
I emailed them regarding sizes for the Chalcidian and they seemed concerned with making an effort to provide one that would fit.

Correspondence BEFORE purchasing would do a lot to judge if they are reliable or not.

Seems like fair comment to me, John. The people you need to trust are, after all, the manufacturers, rather than the retailers. Deepeeka can produce poor stuff (like their original "Greek" shield) but some of it is good. It depends on how much info. they were given, when they made it and the quality of that info.. I think one of our boys (The Hoplite Association) has one, and it's pdg.

I just visited the kultofathena site and that is the helmet our Steve has. It's okay, but I can't, for the life of me, see why it's so much more expensive than the Corinthian. That bloody awful shield is there, too. It's not aparent from the picture, but the bloody abortion not only has a boss, it's also far too small - about the right size for a ten-year-old. I'm quite cross that it's still on sale (as you may have guessed!)

I wasn't being serious. I just saw that leather trooper and choked. I guess it would do for an s&m party. My main question with the Chalcidian is its size. Does it fit closely, like my Type C and my Italo Attic from Deepeeka, both of which I am very pleased with, or is it a bucket like their Montefortino? I also wondeed about the price, but maybe its because of the relief detail, which must take a lot of work. Whatever, thanks for all the responses.

www.by-the-sword.com has it, among any other Deepeeka items (if they don't show it in the catalogue, they can and will get it for you). They have a 25% restocking fee, I believe, if you make a return... But, you can return it if you don't like it!

Is their Alexander helm correct, it looks rather odd to me, but I am not that knowledable about Greek helms.

The enemy is less likely to get wind of an advance of cavalry, if the orders for march were passed from mouth to mouth rather than announced by voice of herald, or public notice. Xenophon

It looks OK for mounted troops of the period or officers, but if you trust depictions it is not close to what is asociated with Alex.
The one depicted on the last film seems more like it but no one can be 100% sure.

The Alexander helmet is supposedly quite large, if you're referring to the Lion version... It looks rather funky to my eyes, as well! There was some store that made the falcata and helmet that Alexander used in the film, which looked QUITE nice!

Let me see if I can find it for you, Arthes. I'll post it as a new topic, for all to see.

Cheers!
