The golly was a childrens toy that fell out of fashion due to political correctness. The full name is gollywog or golliwog. The name has been abbrieviated to golli or golly now for fairly obvious reasons.<br>
<br>
I think Robertsons, a jam preserve company used to use the golly as its main childrens advertising attractor but came under internal and external pressure to stop it.<br>
<br>
The golly also used to appear frequently in the Enid Blyton, Noddy series, but has been removed in the more recent childrens TV remake.<br>
<br>
I always assumed they where a world wide thing, but perhaps not. To be honest I am very surprised that it is still made, but there you go.<br>
