Prefect of the Camp ??
#1
I have brought down a photo of what seems to be a a Prefect of the Camp.

If you look at his right had he is holding a Vid the sign of a roman centurion but the crest on his helmet runs from front to back. Which leads me to believe that he is a Primus Pilus recently promoted to the post.

Apart form that he is dressed as if he was serving in hostile & cold climate area of the empire.

Any suggestions :?:

Lucius,

Your first photo does not show a living man but a tin figure in the scale of 1:32 (54 mm), built by the excellent spanish manufacturer "Andrea Miniaturas". It is not in their normal catalogue offer but was specially built for a very large diorama that was treated in their booklet "Roma Victrix":

IIRC the depicted man is designated to be the legion's primus pilus. I can only highly recommend both the book and the diorama.

Uwe,

I know, that the figure is a tin one. I scanned it out of the first magazine of a series of 50 that were published by the Spanish Company PLANETA DE AGOSTINI who included Andrea figures of 54 mm that accompanied each of the 50 issues.

There are Greek, Roman early & late republic, roman early & late imperial , and roman enemies from Cathage thur the Huns & Mongol Invasion.

Apart form them I have some 350 figures of different scale sizes of Roman soldiers made from lead, resin, soft plastic. Some include FROM playsets like BEN HUR & wARRIORS OF THE WORLD BY MARX, that I had as a child some 45 years ago.

Thank you for your info, and if someone would be interested I get them on photo someday and have them on this corner of Romanmary.com

Hi Lucius,

nice to have further figure collector in this forum. Like You I still have- but only few - Roman toy soldiers from my childhood, also some 45 years ago ... I think it is a good idea to show some of Your "highlights" on this forum. The right place would be in the Recreational Arena "Gaming and Modelling". I myself like it nowadays to scratch together my own Roman dioramas with 54 mm figures and as an example You can find one under this thread:
