Curious as to who is running the show on RAT? Well, here's an introduction to the crew!

Me, I´m a 29/year old inhabitant of the oldest city of the Netherlands (according to our town archaeologist), Nijmegen. I have two jobs, I'm a PhD Student on the Roman Imperial Navy (due in two years) and I work as a chief editor of business magazines at a local publishing company.
I've been on RAT v.1 since 2001 and have since become de-facto webmaster of Romanarmy.com with founder Jenny Cline. Also, I'm co-founder of the new academic Journal of Ancient Military Studies.

Moderators: please introduce yourself here.
Greets!

Well I have been reenacting since 1975, have done most periods from Ancient rome to WWII. I have lived In europe and usa growing up. I Have been in the military and currently have a job to pay the bills. Of all teh periods that I have done or still participate in Ancient Rome is my favourite.

I'm 21, about to graduate with a BA in Classics from the University of Pennsylvania, in Philadelphia, PA, USA. I'm hoping to teach Latin after I graduate. My interests start at ca. AD 500 and just get older from there... but special areas of interest include the languages and warfare of pre-Roman Italy as well as (like Jasper) the Roman Navy. I'm just getting my feet wet as a Samnite reenactor. I maintain a range of sites having to do with these interests, all accessible through the link in my signature below.

Hi! My name is Marsh Wise, a.k.a. DECIMUvS MERCATIvS VARIANvS and I am a horrifying 41 years old (nooooooooooooooooooooo...). I have been reenacting since 1989, starting off doing Soviet, as OpFor helping to train the US Army. Then got into WWI German and then WWII...

For years, I published reenactor newsletters and worked on the college paper... I'm kind of a type geek, having collected zillions of German fonts and now getting into authentic Roman ones ;-) ) In '98, I took over reenactor.Net <[url:amlcpzi2]http://www.reenactor.net/> and have been trying to make it better ever since -- give us a visit! ;-) )

My ex-roommate was in LEG XX w/ Matt Amt way back in 1990 and while I thought it was cool, I REFUSED to make those !@#($!_#(+!^# hinges and buckles!! So alas, my interest in Rome and Roman reenacting lingered and was in stasis for some years.

In 2003, I got serious about Roman reenacting and ended up joining LEG. IX HISPANA <[url:amlcpzi2]http://www.legio-ix-hispana.org/> after Hibernicus recruited me ;-) ) Oh yeah, in 2004, I assimilated the near-defunct RomanArmy Group e-mail list <[url:amlcpzi2]http://www.reenactor.net/Ancient/ra_list/> into reenactor.Net and with the help of a some really grea tmoderators there, calmed it down and made it work. ;-) )

I look forward to helping Jasper keep this board on an even keel ;-Þ Besides, I find I meet more and more great friends here!

Ave,
My name is Jeffrey Greene, I am 36 years old and have been involved in historical reenactment for 21 years, mostly as an American Civil War Confederate infantryman in the 46th Georgia Volunteer Infantry. I portrayed a 15th century man-at-arms for about five years, and along with a friend, formed our late Roman group Secunda about a year ago. We portray fifth century Roman/Romano-British troops of the Secunda Britannica, which is listed in the Notitae Dignitatum.
I am a self taught artist, and have practiced my art since the age of five, and I own and operate a small business called The Greene Knight Forge (a play on my real surname), where I make and sell items for Roman reenactors' kits. I am also an electrical utility lineman by trade, as well as a veteran of the U.S. Army 101st Airborne Division.
I have been a member of RAT for almost two years, and have always loved the incredible amount of knowledge to be gained here, as well as all of the wonderful people. I have made some incredible friends because of RAT and Roman reenacting, and I am glad that I have an opportunity to help out and contribute to this fine forum. Vale,
My name is Robert Vermaat (alter ego Valerius Vitalis, a Chamavian Frank), I'm 40 years old (soon to be as old as Marsh though 8) ).
I'm a historian (specialized in modern history of the Middle East), but I have a job as a civil servant on the local council. I'm married and have two kids (8 and 4). I live in Houten/The Netherlands, a town just south of Utrecht, close to the remains of a Roman fort on the Limes.

After graduation I delved into an old hobby: Arthurian Britain, starting a collection that gradually widened into a study (Faces of Arthur:
[url:1y5spq2h]http://www.geocities.com/vortigernstudies/bibliograrth.htm). From that it became very historical, but a bit earlier in time - I focused on the person of Vortigern and 5th c. sub-Roman Britain (Vortigern Studies : [url:1y5spq2h]http://www.vortigernstudies.org.uk/vortigernhomepage.htm). With Vortigern came the study of souther Britain, especially the enigmantic earthwork called Wansdyke, which is most likely dating to the 5th century (Wansdyke Project 21: [url:1y5spq2h]http://www.wansdyke21.org.uk/wansdykehomepage.htm).

After doing that for a couple of years I got it into my head to get a bit more practical, and re-enactment was the next logical step. After all, I witnessed Marcus Junkelmann riding his horse through the entrance of my favourite bookshop, which positively enetred the re-enactment bug into my system! After seeing the Odijk event of 1997 the decision was made to start a Late Roman group, but it took me until 2001 before anything practical developed. And, another move back in time, this time to the 4th century (Fectio: [url:1y5spq2h]http://www.fectio.org.uk/fectio.htm).

I'm on RAT since march 2002, and a moderator since the conversion to RAT.2.

Ooh Cry I'm already 44, my boys...
I'll implement this later but, for now, I'm a Basque architect from Bilbao and I'm employed as a civil servant at the city council, like Robert (not the same city council, though, Tongue ). I'm married and I have two daughters of 3 and almost one (a really busy period, indeed!)
I got involved in archaeology as a volunteer when I was around twenty and later joined a directive team involved in several successive sites. As long as I earn my life as an architect, I must say that I'm an amateur archaeologist because, like re-enactment, archaeology costs me money, but that is rather a technicism! :?

My name is Murray Dahm and I am a 33 year old PhD student in Sydney, Australia though originally I am a Kiwi (from New Zealand Big Grin ). I did an MA (Hons) and an M Litt at Auckland University and am now researching a PhD at Sydney University. My Masters' were on the genre of didactic military literature, especially Polyaenus of Macedon and Sextus Julius Frontinus. My studies now concentrate on the perception and reception of Roman camps. I joined RAT in May 2002.

I am also an erstwhile opera singer although I occasionally get to dabble still. I teach opera and military history in adult education and I also teach historiography at a High School one afternoon a week. I love books and I collect 1/72 scale miniatures.

Cheers

My name is Ivan Perelló, I'm 30. I'm from Barcelona (ancient COLONIA IVLIA AVGVSTA FAVENTIA PATERNA BARCINO), in Catalonia. Since I was a kid I was a freak of the Roman army, maybe 'cuz I grew up watching those incredible 60's PEPLVM movies from Italy. I re-enact since 2001 making my first steps at LEGIO VII GEMINA in Tarragona and performing many times with the Ermine Street Guard, but last october few members of the VII decided to make our own re-enactment group, and so we did... called now LEGIO I GERMANICA we perform muliperiod. My period now is the 4th century, oh! I love it... so dark, so romantical, so brutal, so forgotten, so... late.
I have studied biology and history at the university but both unfinished, instead of studying I turned to play the drums, but unsuccesfully... I've been working in art dpt. at AD filming for 5 years, archeology assistant for one more and now I work in my family restaurant...

I love ancient music, mainly mediaeval and renaissance, but not classical!

We'll... I guess that like all of us, I'm a freak.

When I tell people I do re-enactment they say: -"You do what?!"-

Real Name: Matt Lanteigne

Height: 172 cm (5' 8")
Body Mass: 72.5 kg (160 lbs)
Hair: Brown
Eyes: Blue
Date of Birth: August 25, 1977
Astrological Sign: Middle finger
Ethnic Backround: Caucasian (English, French, Native Indian and Ukrainian)
Distinguishing Features: 2 Tatoos, 1 on inside left forearm, 1 on right shoulder blade
Profession: Graphic Designer

Social backround pertinent to Roman Military Interests:

After having seen the movie gladiator, it piqued my interest enough to head to the local bookstore and find some great novels by Jack Whyte on Roman Britain. From there, it was an internet search where I found Matt Amt's Legionary's Handbook, and it's all history from there on in (pardon the pun). I am the happy group leader of Legio XXX Cohort I, currently stationed in St. Catharines, ON, Canada.

Greatest Roman related achievement: 1st place goes to making my own lorica segmentata and putting it on for the first time, and taking a gander in the mirror. Cool stuff. 2nd place goes to our road trip to Roman Days in 2003. And finally, 3rd place goes to making my horse hair crest...about 2 hours of work, but darn it looks good!

Other interests: Pardon the term, but I've been a bit of a martial arts whore...boucning from such styles as Wado Ryu Karate, Jiu-Jitsu, Boxing, Wrestling and Kung-Fu, and i've finally settled into a japanese sword art called "Iaido". I basically get to learn how to kill people using a katana, based on an art that was created in the 15th century.

Websites: My roman one can be found here: [url:1cui8wbv]http://www.geocities.com/legioxxxcoh1/
And my site dedicated to my japanese armour and weapons here: [url:1cui8wbv]http://www.geocities.com/thearmourroom/

I also like poetry and long walks on the beach.
