Hello everyone!
I am new to the forum and need some help with some information on Niederbieber helmets. Many of the common replicas and even a few high end replicas of this style helmet have a small earhole in the cheek guards. I have photos of one from the Frankfurt museum that appears to have ear holes but I am unsure if the hole was intentional or due to corrosion. Many of the other intact examples have no hole in the cheek guards. Would it matter for a late 2nd/3rd century impression if my helmet has the small ear holes? The only replica I own currently has the holes. I have attached a photo of the Frankfurt helmet. Thanks for any help!
