Cimmerian tunic
#1
Arrian, Ars Taktika

"ἀντὶ δὲ τῶν θωράκων Κιμμερικὰ χιτώνια, ἴσα καὶ ὅμοια τοῖς θώραξιν" (34.6.1.)

"instead of thorakae (they wear) Cimmerian chitonia, the same in appearance to the thorakae."

(Pinched from Arrian\'s \"Ektaxis kat\' Alanon\" transl issue thread)

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what a Cimmerian tunic might have looked like?

It's the bit about them looking like the corselets that gives me pause, but, for what it's worth, Junkelmann in "Reiter wie Statuen aus Erz" dressed his re-enactment "hippika gymnasia" display riders in embroidered Persian style wrap-around tunics and trousers in the style that Mithras wears on "tauroctonies". On top of that they wore linen cuirasses like the one on the Alexander mosaic from Pompeii.
