Hannsjörg Ubl (1935 - 2021)
#1
With great sadness I announce the passing of

Hannsjörg Ubl in Kritzendorf, Austria, on April 21st 2021.

Hanns has been a great friend, teacher and archaeologist for many years.
Until his death he has been working on his meticulously researeched articles,
which always were a good read, too.

His dissertation about the
Waffen und Uniform des römischen Heeres der Prinzipatsepoche nach den Grabreliefs Noricums und Pannoniens
https://katalog.ub.uni-heidelberg.de/cgi...y=67526223
was and still is great resource for studying the Roman Army.

In memory of wonderful evenings at Ansitz Sonneck in Dietenheim near Bruneck,
Southern Tyrolia, many funny stories about his youth, his travels through the mediterranean
as a young man, curious archaeological peculiarities, a love for good wine and food,
and of a smart and thoughtful mind, that will be dearly missed in the academic world.

You can find a (incomplete) list of Hanns´publications here:

Here is a Nachruf by the Südtiroler Schützenbund:
