Longtime contributor to RAT and Ancient Warfare magazine Paul McDonnell-Staff passed away on March 12. I wrote a short obituary on my blog at AW: https://www.karwansaraypublishers.com/aw...ell-staff/

That's sad to hear.

I've known of Paul McDonnell-Staff since I first read Warry's Warfare in the Classical World in my teens, which was my first introduction to ancient military history.

Having locked horns with him many times I always admired the vasy amount of knowledge he was able to bring into a discussion. And even if those discussions could go awry - Paul could be quite stubborn when he thought he was right - they were never dull and always taught me something.
I did not know but had a hunch he was the person behind Ancient Warfar's 'Tacticus' - there aren't that many people around with that experience plus the apparent need to publish under a pseudonym... Wink
He will be missed.
