Legio X Fretensis popina
#1
For those of you around the San Francisco area, Art Gamon tells me he has his popina finished and is taking it to the next event of Legio X Fretensis. If you happen to be at their event stop by and take a look. He's worked long and hard on it, and the preliminary photos I saw looked good.

Arturius reports the premier of the popina was a great hit. I'm hoping he'll post a report and photos shortly, but he's looking for Graham's sausage recipe to augment, since apparently folks ate everything in sight.

Sounds good. BTW can you guys serve food to the public from your popina, in the UK Health and Safety laws forbid it, you can only poison your own it seems?
We can't offer it, but oddly, if someone ASKS for a taste that legally seems to be ok. Folks grab stuff from plates anyway without asking. It varies from state to state.

We serve only to the LXF members, and the Gauls we are connected with who camp next door. Some members of the public ask for olives or almonds, etc., and if they ask, we let them have a few--we do not sell anything, because of the license and health inspection, etc., questions. Somebody did suggest selling memberships in LXF for the day, that would include some Roman repro coins that could be used at the popina to get other food items. A lawyer said this would work, and allow us to maintain our non-profit status, and avoid the license and health inspections, but this sounds like a bunch of work, and I am avoiding it for now.
