Pteryges - material evidence?
#1
Greetings,

I am doing some research for what is to be my first project in the world of historical recreation, experimentation, etc. - a Roman subarmalis.

I believe this garment, if it did exist in the fashion that many re-enactors believe it existed (with pteruges, or pteryges for you Greeks, hanging from both waist and shoulder), would have evolved from the armaments in the Greek world.

My question for you is this: is there any material evidence of pteryges or any form of subarmalis-type garment found in the ancient Greek world?

If this has been covered before, please forgive me, but when searching for information on pteryges, all I seemed to find were the endless arguments over T-Y vs. Spolas. I have read much of them, but do not remember any direct reference to the information I am looking for.

Thank you.
Alexander

Hi everyone, since there were no answers, I would also like to ask:
Is there any fragment of pteryges or pteruges that survived until today?
