Xanten anyone?
#1
The reporting on Xanten always seems to be military or gladitorial. If anyone attended, what was the civilian side like?

Rich, my Xanten travelogue will be divided in the three parts the event was divided in: Bread(civ), Swords(mil) and Games(glad). I even took pictures of the civilians (huh?! Yeah!). Not too many though (not dozens and dozens as for the military and gladiators) but sufficient for a nice overview I hope. I tried to pay special attention to the 'buildings' they brought along.
Great photos Jasper. The Roman Glassmakers from the UK are the ones in the photos; I have a few that are in that photo.
Forum Traiani is the German group from whom I've bought a few things for our displays.
I am still wondering where all the amphora come from. You just can't buy those over here at all, and that's one of my 'to do' projects, producing amphora.
I'll be rebuilding our caupona and I think I'll try my hand at some of the more elaborate Pompeian figures and snakes.

I know that the Forum Traiani is a German group. Just a lame attempt at a joke, referring to the real Forum Traiani in Rome which is a rather big complex.
