I have seen many pictures portraying the Roman Signifer wearing a wolf skin and even sometimes a cheetah skin... I also read from many sources that they never did, they mainly wore bear and lion skins, can someone link me to a reliable source stating whether or not this is the case?

Where I'm from, wolf/bear/lion pelts are things that don't exist. Foxes are obtainable though
