The Romans are comin\'- to Playmobil!

Quote:Is that a 1-for-1 set up or does each figure represent several men?
It is really quite an impressive display.
Yes indeed, it is indeed impressive, small though it is. I have counted one centuria, which had indeed 80 little men. So it is more or less accurate. There is a similar representation of an entire legion in Connolly's The Roman Army (197-something).

Hi guys
to your knowledge has anyone ever made a plastic of 5000 legionaries with plausible layout for battle (unlike the Bonn musuem show case)? Any photos? With today computer graphics this maybe could be done somewhat easily. A project anyone?

It's still 5000 legionaries which is a lot of individuals, but yes it could be done although it would take a lot of effort, especially over uneven terrain.

Yes, a lot of work, but an interesting project all the same... Idea

Would take a pretty big back yard (or other space) for the "parade" and perhaps an equally large military budget. Cry

Such an undertaking would seem, at first blush, to be madness, and upon reasoned consideration pure insanity.

Still, what a sight to behold. Something to consider...

anybody notice that you apparently cannot get the Playmobil Romans in the UK? Will we have to wait another 43 years for an invasion?

Since a RAT meeting is being organized then why don't you have every person attending contribute at least a contubernium and one horseman of playmobile. This way you could have fun laying out at least a cohort in battle order, that is unless major fighting breaks out on just how to do it! I would be funny to see full grown adults argue on how to place the many pieces.

If 50 people show up, a cohort worth could be easily assembled.
A full legion worth? Need great generosity by the usual enthusiastic few or many more participants. Maybe Playmobile people would be tickled to know about this happening. Would they donate pieces for publicity purposes? Good photography could make wonders

Just a thought

It seems that they are not available here in the US either. I'm not sure what the reasoning is behind this, a marketing decision based upon focus groups or some other arcane business science. Cry

Goffredo,

I think that is a great idea. Though I can not attend the conference I would be tempted to contribute a contubernium to the cause (if I can ever find some here in the US :x ).

Perhaps PlayMobile would find such an event not only amusing but good PR. One never knows when it comes to business, but we could hope that the "suits" running PlayMobile still have a sense of fun and play. After all, they are a toy company...

All playmobil products is always available in Germany first, since that's where they come from. Also, the US playmobil products are always released a year later, it seems. Last year's German products are this year's U.S. and so on. They also have different localized versions of specific sets, e.g. the cop sets (in Germany, the Playmobil cops wear green, just like real German cops, in international versions, they wear a more "international/standardized" dark blue outfit).
Why do I know all this? I travel back and forth between the U.S. and have an 8 year old and a 4 year old (sigh). Now, the Roman guys I'm going to get for myself, though ;-) )
