Downfall
#1
Anybody seen the film 'Downfall' yet? There's been a lot of debate on this board about the accuracy or otherwise of various historical films, and I'd be interested to discover what those more knowledgable than me about WWII thought of the representations in this one.

Personally speaking, I'd advise everyone to see it - best film I've seen in ages, and absolutely convincing (from an inexpert perspective).

That is the German production, right? Der Untergang? I thought it looked quite convincing in most respects, though their take on Hitler is a bit odd. I can't judge details of the uniforms, of course, but I was reasonably convinced by the generally ragged and dirty look of combat troops. The Soviets were a bit thick on the 'exuding threat', but that was the dramatic point, I guess.

And, as in all war movies, everyone is dead before they hit the floor from the first bullet. But it's probably a good thing we don't get more realistic pictures.
