Castra Praetoria
#1
Hi!
Keppie in his article (Keppie, L.: The Praetorian Guard before Sejanus, Athenaeum 84, 1996, p. 101-24) wrote:

"We know that the castra praetoria, when constructed, held the nine cohorts of the Guard, together almost certainly with the three Urban cohorts, thus making 12 in all."

Were the Urban cohorts later (with the increase of the size and number of praetorian cohorts) billeted outside the camp? Is there any evidence for it?

Thank you.
Salve,

It is thought that the barracks in the praetorian camp may have had multiple stories to accommodate the troops.
On the urban cohorts:
Freis, H., Die cohortes urbanae (Köln 1967).
