RATogether
#1
Hi guys,
every now and then I fanatsize of all of us (most of us) meeting in some agreeable place in some not too distant future. Of course there are many roman army events already that we could use and indeed some of you have already met in them. But I was thinking of a true RAT event, a long weekend of RATtling together: thoughts, plans, enactments, food and fun. This forum is great and show no significant signs of dying, although we did loose Sander the Great!

p.s. if anyone still hears Sander please send him my best regards.
If we have another big Rome-area event this year, we should also make it the Rat Round-up. If members do not have armor I can loan them, and these events usually provide sleeping quarters free for armored, authentic participants, and free food as well. Even for the less energetic, there is a place for the Military Fashion Show, section of the displays where we show the evolution of the Roman Soldier from early Republic to late empire. If the next event will require authentic sleeping arrangements I will have three leather tents, and may be getting a large leather centurion's tend next month which will sleep quite a number.
I believe Luca is probably the man to talk to. All I know at the moment is that I have to book a flight to Rome and arrange a couple of days off work. Oh and that I will be trusting II Augusta to get my kit there safely.
The last RAT-sponsored get-together in NL was such a great time. I encourage everyone to plan future outings, using RAT as a coordinating place for planning.

As yet, there are no official RAT-sponsored events planned. This is an important legal point:

If anyone wishes to organize an event and would like Roman Army Talk to sponsor or endorse it, coordinate with Jenny Cline (the senior administrator and legal owner) offline: . The "Roman Army Talk" or "RAT" names may not be used to promote an event without such coordination.

While I hate to be legalistic, I think most of us would agree that RAT has a high reputation that's worth protecting, and we wouldn't want to be associated with any event that reflects poorly on the community.

Our community has truly exceeded my wildest hopes, and I'm continually thrilled to see how much we can do here -- by bringing experts and enthusiasts together, by helping new re-enactment groups get started with accurate info and good sources, by building bonds between veteran groups, and just by being such a friendly and welcoming place.

Thanks for all your help!
Jasper's disappeared off the face of the earth as well. He used to be on MSN all the time. Last thing I heard from him was when he sent me a chapter of the Ritterling translation he senty me to proof read, and htat was some time ago I'm ashamed to add, job hunting has rather intervened.

Well, at least Sander is alive, he posted just yesterday to the RCS forum!
It\'s all an accident, an accident of hands. Mine, others, all without mind, from one extreme to another, but neither works nor will ever.

Jasper's not disappeared of the face of the earth, I'm glad to say. Just not been on MSN for a while. I've moved and haven't got my internet connection at home online yet.
But I'll be back as of early april! (take that as a threat or a promise, whatever )
Greets
Wha-hey! He's alive!
You moved house? Anything closer to the middle of the country?
Maybe, if you're interested, you could reserve the 14th and/or 15th May in your agenda, that's when we'll open the new Roman tower inbetween Fectio and Fort Vechten: it's getting ready!
Errr, no, I moved about 1 mile, closer to the original Batavodurum and certainly with a better view, that's about it.
14th of May is a nono for me, but I'll make a note for Saturday the 15th.
Greets
