I am involved in the publication and study of ancient coin finds (you can see our web site Moneta //www.cultura-net.com/moneta/content.htm.
This program of publication is under the patronage of the International Numismatic Commission.
A part of my program concerns Romania (others are dealing with Georgia and Armenia) and we are publishing a corpus of Roman Republican Denarii struck during the 2n dand 1st century BC.
These hoards are in general linked to some gifts to the mercenaries employed in the Roman Armies. We published a corpus of these hoards buried in the 2nd c. AD with a cartography in the volume on Armenia.
One thing very clear is that the hoards in Romania are linked to some activity perhaps linked to the fights and wars in the 2/1st c BC.
I would like to know if anyone has ideas on the military relations between the Roman Army and some Romanian mercenaries.
Thanks
