Military Autobiographies

I'm trying to find detailed autobigraphies by (ideally lower ranking) soldiers, of any era, describing recruitment, training and the experiences of camp and campaign. I know there are a great many of these, both in and out of print, but I'm wondering if anyone can suggest any particularly good titles?

I've only read bits and pieces, but Anthony Swofford's "Jarhead" is supposed to be rather good. He was, I believe, a lower ranking NCO during in the Persian Gulf War-era.
You might try 'The Forgotten Soldier' by Guy Sajer. He was a private in the Grossdeutchland Division of the German Army and served on the Eastern Front. His book deals with his basic training not only in the regular army, but also his indoctrination into this elite division.
