Ave all,
I am new to roman army talk and have just joined the reenactment group Roma Vita so if this is a obtuse question forgive my ignorance. I have read that a miles carried two pila on heavy and one light in the republic and then identical later on with a weight just under that shaft in the empire. So if they are carrying a scudum in one hand and a pila in the other then were does the other pila go especially when you consider when they on the march with a cross over one shoulder with cloak basket, mess gear ect. And that marries had the troop carrying more and more. So if any could enlighten me I would be much obliged.
