Spartan panoply at Thermopylae
#16
The Lakedaimonians during the Persian wars were not the heaviest-armoured Greeks. By this time they had discarded surperfluous pieces such as stomach, arm, thigh, and ankle protection, that were worn in previous centuries. In the Bronze Age, Greek armour was even heavier. The Dendra Panoply covers far more of the body than anything the Lakedaimonians wore.
