Can anyone tell me where I can find information on drafting in the Roman empire?I'm especially interested in the change from amateur to 'professional' army, I'm writing an essay on the matter for school. Anyone who knows any sites (Englisj or Dutch) please reply either here or at [email protected] .
Thanx,
The recent thread on Later Roman and Early Byzantine Information contains a discussion on conscription and volunteering in the Roman army and some links to sources on the Roman draft as well as articles dealing with the subject. It might be a bit too detailed for a school report.
For an overview of drafting methods information can be found on the following pages:
Polybius, book 6. Describes the selection process for recruiting a Roman army in the second century BC.
Quintus, have you searched Amazon.co.uk? there are several books devoted to Roman jewelry in Britain, and one on earrings alone. Now that I searched, I think this particular publisher is one of those small ones that is not carried for some reason by Amazon. When I get home I'll find the exact publisher. The following is on Amazon.co.uk though.
Ear-rings in Roman Britain
Lindsay Allason-Jones
Our Price: £18.00
Availability: We expect to be able to find this title for you within 4-6 weeks. Please note that titles occasionally go out of print or publishers run out of stock.
Paperback (1989)
British Archaeological Reports; ISBN: 0860546055

The publisher I was remembering is Shire Books,
www.shirebooks.co.uk
but they don't have a jewelry book, my mistake.
