Can anyone suggest when this Byzantine general was born? I know that he is now not considered to be the later writer of the Strategikon who has been suggested as his son.
John Julius Norwich states in his History of Byzantium that Ktakalon was "much younger" than Isaac Komnenos and given the latter was born c1005-1007 my assumption is that is cannot be later than 1015-1017 because he is a major officer in command of Armenian Thematic troops in Maniakes army in Sicily in 1040/41.
I have read that he married after the end of the Bulgarian war of Basil II but how closely after it's end in 1018 I cannot say.
