Is it, Evan? I would have thought that that would be salutatus sum. If salutem is intended to be a verb at all, I think it would be present subjunctive active. However, I think that here it isĀ the accusative singular of salus, salutis, f, 'health' or 'greeting'. Salutem amicis could be a contraction, '(I wish) health to (my) friends' or '(I give) a greeting to (my) friends.'

I agree with you about salvete amici.
Michael King Macdona

And do as adversaries do in law, -
Strive mightily, but eat and drink as friends.
(The Taming of the Shrew: Act 1, Scene 2)
