Been a bit nervous about posting my stuff here.

Made the spatha hilt and scabbard last week and finished the clothing, boots and submarlis over the weekend.

Hoping the helmet arrives this week.

Will finish the lamellar this week and ride in it all next weekend.

The boots may be a bit high for LR purposes - who made them? Can we get them in a close-up?

Here is my first post to this wonderful forum. I am working on my kit and had to borrow some hamata for a photo shoot for a crucifixion scene we did over this weekend.

I am wanting a kit for soldier serving in Judea around the time of Jesus. Armor wise I was planning on sticking with hamata and a coolus helmet. It looks like a large oval shield is what I need to make next

There are so many high quality impression here that coming into it anew without much of an idea is a little off putting.

I made everything in the pics over the last week except the bow, the sword blade and the belt.

I completely stuffed up the toes on the boots and had to make them fit. I think I will buy a pair of boots next.

I am getting the Roman Cavalry Helmet from Deepeeka.

Are you wearing greaves for your heavy infantry impression ?
It's a little hard to tell from the photos.
And is your round shield convex, flat ?

A mounted horse archer is something I have yet to see :wink:

You're on a good start for a soldier at the time of Christ. I, too, am
working on a similar impression : Coolus helmet, squamata, oval shield,
hasta (spear), gladius hispaniensis, and proper clothing. I just don't have
the gladius yet or proper boots. As for a shield I made my own flat and oval
shaped. It looks Hellenistic rather than Roman. I hope to see your impression
when it's more fully developed 8) Thanks for posting your photos, Greg.

Hi Theo, some pics trying the kit out today on horse.

I have half a dozen horses that I can joust off, shoot off etc. This is Martel, he is brand new at it. Second day with the bow and first day with any sort of armour.

Here are the boots I made. I really butchered the pattern and will be replacing them ASAP. Ran out of leather lace so had to use some modern laces for today.

Your camera man takes excellent photos !
These really take one back through time.
Being in such a scenic location makes all the difference.

And you are quite a craftsman, making just about all your own gear it seems.

Yes, there are some white examples with red tunics from late Roman mosaics in Apamea.

Maybe the boot pattern could improve but I'm very impressed by the fact that you make all that equipment yourself.
