Thanks! It was fun - 2 freezing days of running around in tunics and stuff and sleeping in Roman tents with minus 15 C degrees at night. This year's exceptionally long winter caught us by surprise Smile

Castra Romana 2013 was a blast!

Target practice on the drill field:

Unfortunately the Ugly Basket survived... (See what I did there? Tongue)

Drill:

Gladiators and Gladiatrices:

Angela there took down all four guys from the citadel. And they were real soldiers!!!

A Barbarian in the Arena

That was two vs. one, those SCA folks are tough.

Civvies:

Josh on the ground there is 6' 8". On a chair with a crest the Centurio isn't taller than him!

Speaking of the Centurio:

Yeah, and belt and stuff too.

I had to borrow a pair of pants and some Zwammerdam-type boots from Rusty, my shoes and pants weren't done yet. I also had to borrow a shield and spear from the barbarians, again mine weren't finished yet.

I hate that I missed this. I'm definitely going to try to make the drive next year! Great pics!

This photo (un-posed) was taken at the Roman Bacchanal weekend at the Renaissance Festival near Houston on 11-09-13. That is me on the left as a Legate and an unknown man and wife on the right in Roman garb.

I thought this was worth a post. Matt Amt, Legion 20 and one of the founders of North American Roman Reenactment showing off his Baldenheim (I've seen this in person, hand made using stuff he found in the dumpster.)

Wow Evan, that is awesome indeed! If I remember correctly, Matt made also a great steel Burgh Castle- style helmet himself some time ago.

Yeah I've seen that, it's really nice.

To do something like this is surprisingly easy, its just time consuming and takes a good but of know-how with the material.

I'm more of the "He can make it and I'll buy it from him" type.

I am however making my own Shield and I made my own Belt.
