Show here your Roman soldier impression
Paul,
Ah, right mountain, wrong valley. From what I seem to remember (in modern walking gear a couple of years ago), the mountain was relatively easy... the Great Moss was another matter. Well done, you crazy man!!
About moving with the late gear on, it's easier if you wear the shield hanged and holding your spatha's grip with your left hand, but its by getting used to that when you optimize the wearing, marching and even running!
Ivan Perelló
Hi Ivan,

Great pictures - I gather that the event was not that cold after all?

Are all of these guys coming to Archeon in July? i count on you to for our 'fashion show'! By the way, I will refer to your group as the 'septimani', even though I see that lately you're called Legio I Germanica?

Could you possibly send me more pictures of the Late Roman people?
Valete,
yes, these all are coming on july. Septimani Seniores are the late Roman branch of the Legio I Germanica. By now I am the only late roman in complete gear, two other IV century ones more are in preparation as well as a III century one with a buch-Niederberber helmet.
Ivan Perelló
Thanks, Jeff I do try Smile

I think I'm going to go with the Exculcatores for the "National" shield as I am in touch with another fellow who does this impression as well.

John: many iconography, for example the tombstones of Lepontius at Strasbourg, Flavius Augustalis at Aquileia, the Piazza Armerina mosaic, The bas-relief of Stilicho at Monza, the chlamys statues from Ravenna and Viena, the tomstones of Aurelius Mucianus from Apamea... that for the late ones, the tombstone of centurio Minucius at Padova for the republican period for example, the Croy hill relief for the Antonine period, the Aquimncum tomstones... and many, many others

Here is my 3rd century auxiliary impression. A soldier, Aurelius Germanus of Cohors Quinta Gallorum based at Arbeia (South Shields) on the River Tyne, in about 230AD. A supply depot at the Eastern end of Hadrian's Wall. I apologise in advance for the pilum. I just wanted one.
