Were Roman socks knitted or cut from wool like medieval hosen feet?

There is an existing pair from Egypt that is made in a nalbinding technique (similar to knitting). There is also evidence for leg and foot wrappings that were not shaped but simply wound around (fasceoli). At Les Martres des Veyre, a pair of Gallo-Roman women's ankle socks and a matching one of long stockings were excavated. Both were sewn from cloth, but IIRC the pieces were purpose-woven, not cut.
I guess you can just pick your pick and choose your choice.

Udones were also cut from woven wool, like med. hose, from all of the pics I've seen, usually in two pieces. There are some from Vindolanda cut frojm cloth. Since footwear was non sex or age based it is reasonable to suspect that 'socks' were the same. There is a company in Germania that sells naalbinded (yes, that is correct) socks. It's somewhere in here: www.reenactors.de/shop.html .
Reenactors.de are a nice, dependable store. Robert (valerius/Vortigern) and I have bought a fair amount of stuff with them, and we're very happy with them. Some individual articles might be better, but you can't fault their service or dependability.

I really like the site, and they seem to have some very good stuff, though I haven't yet ordered anything. However, it is not set up very intuitively, and very difficult to navigate as a non German speaker.
