Why did Spartacus turn South?
#1
Does anyone know if there is a confirmed reason/s that Spartacus turned South instead of escaping North after defeating the legions of consuls Lucius Publicola and Gnaeus Clodianus?

I know that there are speculated theories that he wanted to reform roman society and abolish slavery but they haven't been confirmed.

Just wanted to know if there was anything out there that confirms his motives?

I've heard that his men wanted more loot, so he turned south again, against his better judgement. I don't know for sure, but I thought I'd just throw that out there.

well Picenum is in central Italy, I read somewhere (need to remember where though) that there was enough army in Northern Italy to stop him anyhow , probably he knew that and as the south was already defeated he marched away from the danger. He was also discussing with pirates about crossing over to Iliricum. Probably also the loot in the south was attractive.

well the end is known ....
