6th century warrior grave goods
#1
I came across this and hadn't seen it before, it's a complete grave find of a wealthy warrior from Gammertingen, Germany, VI century.
Dont really have any more info on it other than the blurb on the photo:-
Quote:The princely man was wearing a golden helmet and mail armor. Beside him lay his weapons, including a sword, an axe, a throwing spear, and an ornate lance.

He was certainly armed to the teeth when he was buried but it's interesting to see all of this as a collection belonging to one individual.

The sax does not belong to this grave and was added later.
See here
and here for some more info (scroll down).

One interesting factor on the mail is the possibility that it may have had a coif- certainly a raised neckline.
