If anyone happens to be passing through Dorset, why not see if the Ancient Technology Centre are having an open day or volunteer day? An amazing site that has a reconstructed forge building based on finds from Londinium, a roundhouse based on southern English Iron Age finds, a large sunken roundhouse soil and turf topped, the Roman water wheel from the Museum of London and (out of area) a Viking longhouse. All very accurate, friendly, knowledgable staff and a wonderful belief in hands on education. can't say enough good things about the place.

Next open day is July 26th for experimental archaeology.
We (Wulfheodenas) are there a couple of times a year and get to play and sleep in their rather marvelous long hall.

I've refered to this place several times if you search. They have the reconstructed Roman water wheel from London which was featured in the (dreaded) Time Team and for which I volunteered to help rebuild once it was moved.
