Late antiquity spatha question
#16
I am sure I have seen this sword in this book http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sword-Anglo-Saxo...axon+sword where it says the handle material was added after the sword was found so the rivets may be a missinterpreation.

The book shows a couple of other swords that have similar handle reconstrictions in the book too IIRC.

Yes, the sword is for real and the hilt is a later addition. If sold as the real thing, a forgery ....

Forgery or not, i have to made a scabbard for my customer.... LOL Tongue

So, i have choose a generic germanic one, with the caracteristics of the scabbards of migration period: rounded chape, double slide, decorated mouth, and a stone used as amulet.

Hope the final result is convincent...

It's a really good reconstruction of a really horrible sword.
