UVM has been around a while already and is an interesting approach to create an electronic scoring system for weapon based martial arts of Asian and/or European origin.
They main drawback currently is, that they seem to make the armor safe for blunt wood or plastic weapon simulators.
In the Historic European Martial Arts (HEMA) community there are already established tournaments with blunt steel simulators, though nylon simulators are used in countries where blunt steel would be problematic.
Ideally the armor should allow safe full contact sparring with sharp blades or heavy impact weapons, as this is currently impossible with the available safety equipment.
