Anyone have any insight into the correct way to wind a standard bow fibula? I am making some up, and looking at the complete pieces on line, and I don't see how it can be done without lacing the last several winds under the transverse loop. any ideas?

kal.
With many of these type of springs we have the bilateral type where the two spring parts are wound in opposite directions with a gap between the two windings known as the chord, the idea is to be able to measure the length of this cord so that when it is bent around you have the pin at the centre of the double winding with the correct amount of chord to clip into its stop or retainer.
I have made many of these type of brooches over the years and have to say the spring takes a bit of practice but I'm sure you will get there, this one of course has what is know as an internal chord
