Making a General Greek greaves
#16
Quote:I will see what we can do in production stage- lacquer is not a good idea. It does crack when you try to put the greave on and off. I have done that in the past.

Try Hoppe's gun oil. Works a treat for mild steel armor and repro swords in the SCA; I don't see why it wouldn't work for bronze.

Gagan, thanks for the photo, but can I kindly request for more representative photos, square front, square profile and square back? From this photo we can only see that the greaves correcty go all the way round the leg, but not much more

I will try again. For whatever reasons, I cant straighten the images. They appear absolutely perfect on my computer, so I dont know what needs to be done to correct the orientation.

Gagan, i think the main problem is what you can see for yourself, the greaves are waaay too big. At least if i judge from the plastic legs that wear them. I think that part of the problem is that they are too long. This style of greaves was not meant to cover any part of the thigh, but berely cover the knee. Also they are meant to stick on the legs or they will obviously fall down otherwise, so you need to make them very tight on the leg. As I mentioned begore, they need to be very tight on the thin legs, because they can easily open for the thicker legs, but they can hardly close more for the thin ones. Their total length should not be more than around 45 cm, which is good for an average hight European.

Any news on these greaves? Have they been made smaller? Have they been put in production?

Hey,

Has there been any progress on these greaves in the last two months? I know there was talk of making them smaller, has this been put into effect?
Thanks.

Do you have any pictures of it on a person?

The sample looks really nice! The only thing I would change is the type of leather. I much preferred the brown swede you used in the previous sample. It looks more authentic and can also be dyed to the reenactor's liking.
Indeed photos on a real person would be useful as well.
When will they be available?

Excellent! I think one cannot ask much more from a mass produced item as far as fit is concerned. It even allows some room for personal modification, if one needs, for instance shortening from the top or bottom.

When will these be availlable?
