Military execution

I'm fairly certain from something I've read before that signifers were executed in opposing army camps as well during civil wars. Anyone got stuff to back this up?

I've never heard of that before. Something out of Seutonius? Tacitus? I can't remember at the moment who wrote about the Year of the Four Emperors, which is where I'd think something like that would show up, if it ever showed up? Or maybe the 110 civil war?

In general I think the idea is something so horrendous is "news worthy", and since Romans love making an example and working the propaganda machine / shock - I tend to read these sorts of incidents, like Decimation, as the exception, not the rule….Sort of like Darth Vader - Killing off officers and troops left and right - soon you're gonna run out of men….Or something like the Centurion "hand me another"…. *shrug*
