Quilted textiles are not a Good solution for close combat. They will get ripped by slashes. Must be a diferent solution

How is that relevant? All armour gets damaged in combat.You do realise that there are many many different types of armour that involve a cloth facing: brigandine, coat of plates, jack of plates, jazerant, gestron, gambeson, khazagand, schiessjoppe, peti, ichcahuipilli, etc, etc. All of which get "ripped by slashes" if used in combat. Many of them are covered with very expensive cloth: damask, silk, satin, sendal, and so on, with the full knowledge that they will get damaged and need repairs. This is actually an argument against the use of glue: quilted armour is easy to repair, glued armour is not.
