There are things that can not be explain with the usual approach (musculata with sleeves for instance). Europeans, specially Germans and Britons were barbarians with little knowlege. All Roman arts, architecture and science, become lost, after Christianisation...sort of Talibanism. Not extrange if some military technology became lost too.
In the other hand your faith in Roman iron musculata is supported with sculptures more than actual remains.
