I don´t pretend to convince any one, I just point some very extrange things that are very difficult to achieve, either with quilted linen, either with hardened leather, opening the possibility to make some experimental research.
There are no mentions of Greek linen cuirasses, but I suspect that if this cuirasses were as good as the metal ones, as we can deduce from the disapearence of them for a while, the production process will not be generally disclosed. Greeks are not allways telling the true, as you can imagene, specially when they are also soldiers.
Leather is not as strong as brass can be. Is difficult to understand how a profesional army change the very venerable cuirasses for something that is not as good as they have before.
Is easy to trace the spread of this armour, from Greeks to Macedonians, to Etruscans, Punics etc. All this cultures know perfectly the properties of leather, and they don´t need any one to learn how to make one, because they now from back as Neolithic.
But the best way to see if the reasonings ara good, I will like to make some experimental research, I suspect some parts were quilted and others glued.
