it is a my reproduction of a late roman sword,the handle is in horn,bone and brass.

great looking piece!!

In regards to how you mounted the scabbard slide, with the leather or fabric twine, where do you have evidence for it being done that way? From the originals that I have seen/handled and images of the bottoms of these slides, they all had "rivets" sticking out of them...

Pouan was two decorative pieces mounted onto two built-in wooden sliders.

For mounted the slide In used leather and in the picture you can see thenttype of reperts of slide I use.is possible to see that some slides have rivets,some no so the slides whuitout rivets had only the leather for be attaching on the scabbard.

Interesting. Thanks for the image. Seems the majority use the studs to mount them. The one type with the circular opening seems ton consistently not have the rivets. What period is that slide from. Early 4th century?

Marcus I have made a few swords with slides.The studs on their own are not enough they still need to be bound top and bottom. Most slidesI have seen are just slightly bent over and would not be strong enough to take the weight of the sword over time.I would go into more detail but its not my thread Cry
