I was thinking yesterday about how to have some lamps in the camps at night in the Roman army.<br>

Do someone know what they used. Before your tent you can have a fire, but not if you gonna walk. Did the Roman legions had a kind of Mag-Lite?<br>

Oil lamps were used (lucernae), commonly, pottery ones, but there were also luxury bronze lamps.<br>

We had a thread over in RomanCivTalk a while back. Seems someone has actually written a book on it, though I've not seen it.<br>
