I don't have any additional information about the Newstead piece itself, but the 2 tabs that are visible on the pictures put the style in line with the caligae finds from Valkenburg and Castleford (cf http://sutor.jimdo.com/shoes/roman-shoes/caligae/), which are more complete. Maybe that helps ...
